Flare | SSAA Chorus a cappella | 3'

Flare is constantly in motion, a chase through the forest that drives toward the last line: “big brother, I am catching up to you.” The phrase “I am running” returns at various points, serving as a refrain and urging the music forward, in one long, rhythmic race.

Flare sets a poem by Stacy Gnall from her book of poems Heart First Into the Forest. This premiere recording is performed by the Flower Mound High School Women's Chorale (Flower Mound, TX), directed by Mark Rohwer.

Flare was commissioned by the 32 choruses of the ACDA Women’s Choir R&S Commissioning Consortium, Iris S. Levine, National Chair.
