Villanelle for solo trumpet is based on the poetic form of a villanelle, which follows a particular rhyme scheme and in which a pattern of lines repeat internally. The music follows this form, presenting various repetitions and “musical rhymes”—lines that follow similar melodic and/or rhythmic patterns.
